I loved this scene how it started with John leading and Sherlock following him all sad and lost and desperate.
It’s kind of sweet and sad that Sherlock is using all the same compliments that John has said to him before. Like he had no other references for what a good compliment is, because he’d never really been given any before John turned up. And in his head he’s just going “I was happy to be told these things. I will make John happy by telling him the same things also.” And then he tried to think of his own little compliment and it comes out as a sort of insult. Even though coming from Sherlock it’s actually the biggest praise ever, because he’s saying “You make me more intelligent.” And being clever is his most important thing.
